When Cheech & Chong switched from Rebuy to OneClickUpsell Plus in July 2025, they weren’t just looking for another upsell tool—they wanted hands-on funnel management and a strategic partner who could capture the revenue they knew they were missing.
Within days, our Enterprise team immediately got to work overhauling their funnels, launching split tests, and optimizing their entire upsell strategy. Just seven weeks later, the new system had generated $90,000 in revenue and delivered a massive 39x ROI.
This case study is the story of why they switched, how we rebuilt their upsell strategy, and what lessons you can apply to your own brand from the data we uncovered.
Results:
- $90,000 in revenue
- 3,900% ROI
- In just 7 weeks
(Well… technically, since the first 30 days are free when you join Zipify Plus, their ROI was more like 110x—but we won’t brag that hard.)
Why Cheech & Chong Left Rebuy For Zipify Plus

Cheech & Chong sells hemp-derived THC products, which means they operate in a highly regulated category with strict limitations. To maximize revenue, every touchpoint must work harder—especially the post-purchase funnel.
Their team realized they could generate significantly more revenue if they had:
- Strategic upsell management
- Ongoing testing and optimization
- A partner to build funnels for them
They didn’t just want the software, they wanted expertise and execution.
Within days of onboarding, our Zipify Plus team began restructuring their upsell strategy to generate the highest possible return.
A Scalable System for Large-Catalog Stores
Cheech & Chong has a large catalog with many SKUs, which means manually mapping product-by-product funnels would lead to: gaps in coverage, time-consuming setup, and unreliable offer relevance
To solve this, we built their funnels around best-seller and collection triggers, which are ideal for large catalogs.
- Best-sellers give you broad funnel coverage because they attach offers to the products most customers are already buying.
- Collections let you apply upsells across an entire group of related products at once which is essential when your store carries a lot of SKUs.
By combining these two approaches, we created a system that is both scalable and highly effective, covering more buyer journeys with fewer custom funnels.
Why 4-Way Split Testing Changed Everything
With the funnel structure in place, the next step was to optimize the offers themselves. That’s where one of the most powerful advantages of Zipify Plus comes in:
4-way split testing (Zipify Plus Exclusive Feature)

Instead of A/B testing just two offers at a time (which is available for all accounts), Cheech & Chong were able to test four completely different upsell offers simultaneously.
This kind of parallel testing dramatically accelerates optimization—you learn faster, find winners faster, and grow revenue faster. And with so many tests running at once across our Enterprise accounts, this is the perfect moment to highlight a brand-new feature:
NEW: Split Test Dashboard Inside OCU
You can now view an organized timeline of all your recent A/B tests—what changed, how each variation performed, and which ideas truly moved the needle.

The Split Test Dashboard takes the guesswork out of optimization, helping you scale what works and skip what doesn’t. It’s available on every OneClickUpsell plan.

3 Key Insights From Their First 7 Weeks on Zipify Plus
Our testing revealed three major insights that every ecommerce brand should understand — especially those trying to optimize their post-purchase revenue.
Lesson 1: Don’t Chase Conversion Rates—Chase Revenue
We tested upselling customers three different quantities of the same product:

Not surprisingly, conversion rate dropped as quantities increased:
- 14.48% for 1 bag
- 13.61% for 2 bags
- 10.19% for 3 bags
But the revenue told a different story.
Revenue per visit more than doubled, rising from $2.52 → $4.56 at the 3-bag offer. Even though fewer people say “yes” to the higher-quantity upsells, those who do generate significantly more value per visitor overall.
Key takeaway: Optimize your upsells for revenue per visitor, not conversion rate. High-intent buyers produce outsized lift.
Lesson 2: Personalization Beats Persuasion
We tested our dynamic “Same Item as Bought” upsell against a manually built, long-form content offer.

Despite containing far less content, the dynamic offer:
- Almost doubled conversion rate
- Generated ~83% more total revenue
- Delivered 15% higher revenue per visit
The dynamic offer wins because it matches what the customer already wanted. The long-form upsell doesn’t—it asks them to stop, read, and build new interest. That can slow them down and hurt conversions.
Key takeaway: Dynamic, personalized offers outperformed copy-heavy upsells. In other words, simplicity and relevance wins.
Lesson 3: Bigger Discounts Don’t Always Win
We compared two dynamic upsells 15% off vs 20% off — and surprisingly, the smaller discount performed better:

- 17.95% conversion (15%)
- 16.71% conversion (20%)
The 15% discount converted 7.4% better, generated higher revenue per visit, and most importantly preserved more margin.
It turns out when customers are already committed, small discount changes (within 5%) may not dramatically affect conversion. Deeper discounts may simply erode margin.
Key takeaway: Start with lower discounts on post-purchase upsells—intent is already high.
Results: $90K in 7 Weeks + 3,900% ROI
Once our OCU Plus team took over their funnel strategy and launched the initial round of split tests, the revenue gains began compounding quickly. Here’s what we delivered for Cheech & Chong saw in their first seven weeks:
- $90,000+ in upsells revenue
- 3,900% Return on Investment (ROI)
- Higher revenue per visitor l
- Better margins, less discounting
- Enterprise-grade optimization
We turned every dollar Cheech & Chong invested in OCU Plus into $39 in revenue—and as impressive as that sounds, it’s actually pretty typical.
Most brands that join OCU Plus see around 30X ROI.
How to Apply This to Your Store
If you want to apply these insights to your own store, the big takeaways are simple:
- Higher quantities drive higher revenue—even with lower conversion.
- Clear, relevant offers outperform long-form upsells.
- Smaller discounts can win and protect your margins.
Cheech & Chong switched from Rebuy to OCU Plus because they believed they were leaving money on the table.
They could feel the upside in their post-purchase funnel—they just didn’t have the time or in-house expertise to unlock it. Our team stepped in, built a testing strategy, and helped them realize the revenue potential they always knew was there.
