Have you been sitting on the sidelines? Then it’s time to get in the game and start swinging for the fences!

Introducing: OneClickUpsell’s MVP Trigger Conditions Logic.

We’ve added 3 new funnel triggers (7 total), and built-in customizable conditions to help manage which customers see your upsell funnels and when.

In this post, we review each funnel trigger and their conditions settings, including a few examples on how to use each one.

Scouting the Upsell Triggers Location & Dashboard

Inside the OCU funnel builder, start by clicking “Select Triggers”:

Trigger button location inside the upsell funnel.

On the next screen, you’re greeted with a new layout that helps make configuring your conditions much easier:

As you become more familiar with this screen, you’ll improve your ability to optimize your funnels quicker and more efficiently.

Understanding and Implementing the Conditions Logic Playbook

1. The “Product” Trigger & Conditions

Use this trigger to select a single product or number of products. The product(s) you select will include all of the current and future product variants by default:

The “product” trigger conditions inside OneClickUpsell.

The specific conditions available for this trigger are “is any” and “is not”.

These conditions are what allow you to include or exclude the product(s) you’ve selected. We provide an example of an “is not” condition towards the end of this blog.

Note: Only the Product, Product Variant, Collections and Customer Tag triggers have these options. Item quantity and total value have different conditions to choose from.

2. The “Product Variant” Trigger & Conditions

Use this trigger to select a specific product variant or variants. (Future variants added to a selected product must be added manually.)

This trigger is helpful if you want to upgrade the customer’s cart by swapping out a particular product with a bundle, or upsell based on the size or color variant added.

The same conditions to include or exclude the selected variants will apply.

3. The “Collection” Trigger & Conditions

Use this trigger to select a specific collection of products. Using the collection trigger will only include the products available in the collection at the time of setup:

If you’re runningsale for a product collection, or want to offer complementary products based on collections, this option would allow you to create an independent funnel solely for customers who purchase from that group of products.

The same include and exclude conditions apply for this trigger.

4. The “Any Product” Trigger & Conditions

Use this trigger to select all current and future products in your store as a trigger:

This trigger recognizes every product and their variants as trigger products, and is perfect for when you have only a few products in your store.

You can also use this as a catchall at the bottom of your priority list to include any products that aren’t set to trigger a higher priority funnel.

There are no additional conditions available for this trigger.

5. The New “Items Quantity” & “Total Value” Trigger & Conditions

You would use the total value trigger to set a specific total value of the product(s) that need to be added to the cart, in order for the upsell to show:

The “total value” trigger conditions inside OneClickUpsell.

If you want to set a specific number of units of an item that need to be added to the cart for the upsell to show, use Item Quantity:

The “item quantity” trigger conditions inside OneClickUpsell.

Both Item Quantity and Total Value can be tailored to perform around a base value using variables, like:

  • More than
  • Less than
  • Equal to
  • More than or equal to
  • Less than or equal to
  • Not equal to

For example, if you want to upsell customers who bought 5 items or more in your store, you would then set the condition to “more than or equal to” and set the value at 5.

This same logic also applies to Total Value when customizing the conditions.

6. The New “Customer Tag” Trigger & Conditions

Use this trigger to show/hide upsells for customers with a specific tag in Shopify.

Customer tags can be added/removed on a customer’s details page in the Customers section of your Shopify admin.

Note: For pre-purchase offers, OCU tracks customer tags only if the customer is logged into their account on your store.

After you’ve tagged your customer in Shopify, the tag you added will be dynamically generated and available for use in OCU.

Suppose you had an MVP customer list — with this trigger, you can create a custom tag and tag those MVP customer profiles to have them presented with their own special funnel.

Advanced Strategies for Trigger Conditions: “Or”, “And” & “Exclude”

Within each condition, there are or rules that can be enabled. This will add another trigger to your condition where, if either objective is met, the funnel will initiate:

The “or” rule option on the trigger conditions dashboard.

For example, if you wanted to initiate a funnel for multiple collections, you can stack the additional collections to the trigger conditions setup:

Multiple trigger conditions joined by the "or" rule.

The next vital piece of the trigger conditions logic is the and rule. When using this rule, all conditions should be true to make the upsell funnel initiate for the customer:

The “and” rule option on the trigger conditions dashboard.

Use this condition if you want to enable a funnel to trigger based on a combination of triggers.

For example, if combining Product A  and Product B with the “and” rule, then Product A and Product B both need to be in the cart for the funnel to initiate:

Multiple trigger conditions joined by the "and" rule.

When using the Product, Product Variant or Collections trigger you can switch the variable to “is not”.

The "is not" variable option for the "product" trigger condition.

Let’s say you want to show the upsells based on a particular collection — except for one of the products in it.

You would add that product to the second condition and set it to “is not” to exclude it from triggering the funnel:

Multiple trigger conditions joined by the "and" rule, including the "is not" variable.

Using these strategies, you can tailor customized funnels that can be shown to a single customer, from a specific location, who buys a specific item, and has a defined value that needs to be met before they trigger the funnel.

Or, you can keep it simple and have your funnel show for every customer that visits your site.

It’s totally up you — the playbook is in your hands now!
