Connect PayPal to OCU Without Using Reference Transactions

Hey, Ashley here with a big update to OCU:

You can now use PayPal without enabling reference transactions!

Watch my video to see how.

What is a Reference Transaction?

A “Reference Transaction” is a transaction ID that PayPal generates for every purchase.

And in order for OCU to add to your customers’ existing orders (via post-purchase upsells), we needed to access to this ID.

Unfortunately, some stores had problems meeting PayPal’s reference transaction requirements, so that left them unable to use PayPal Checkout…

And since PayPal is a big payment processor for some businesses, that meant that they couldn’t use OCU.

Well that didn’t sit well with us.

How to Connect PayPal to OCU:

While we still recommend that you use reference transactions if you can, we’ve come up with a quick solution to this problem (and it’s easy to set up).

Here’s how to enable PayPal for OCU:

  1. Log in to your PayPal account and copy your Client ID and Secret Key
  2. Log in to your OCU app and navigate to “Payment Processor > PayPal Checkout” tab
  3. Paste the Client ID and Secret Key into the corresponding boxes
  4. Turn the Enable switch to “On” and click “Save”

That’s it! Just remember to always run a test transaction on your store to make sure everything works.
